Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer

Share |

The regenerative thermal Oxidation (RTO) is one of the most accepted oxidation technologies nowadays. By means of an oxidation by temperature the destruction of the COVs is got. The typical combustion temperature is 800ºC (1472ºF) while the residence time is of one second.

One of the most important characteristics is its low operative cost relative to other purification solutions. It consists of an equipment formed by three towers which house a ceramic bed and a vault that acts as a common combustion chamber where the oxidation of the solvents is produced. The heat produced by the combustion of the gases that the VOCs contains is used to heat the ceramic bed. This recovered heat is used to preheat entry gases due to an efficient heat transfer between entry and exit gases.

The combustion gases, mainly composed of water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2), are then released into the atmosphere. So that these equipments work in auto-thermal way (without gas consumption) a specific design for each installation is required because it is necessary to look for a solution for ranges of air flows and solvent concentrations.
